Zara Larsson music pulled from Apple Music in China following criticism of state (report)

Swedish pop star Zara Larsson’s music has reportedly been pulled from Apple Music in China.

That’s according to Chinese news site Global Times, which reports that Larsson’s music is no longer available on the service in the market following critical remarks directed at the Chinese State during a TV interview in Sweden last week.

Speaking to broadcaster TV4 on Tuesday (August 4) Larsson announced that she had ended her brand partnership with Chinese device maker Huawei, stating that “it was not the smartest deal I have made in my career”.

The artist cited Huawei’s alleged links with the Chinese Government, which has seen the global telecommunications giant face sanctions in the US and a ban from the 5g network in the UK.

“We know the Chinese state, it is not a nice state. I do not want to support what they do. But it’s hard not to do that when I’ve made this deal. I have ended the collaboration.”

During the interview, Larsson suggested that China “is not a nice state” and added: “I do not want to support what they do. But it’s hard not to do that when I’ve made this deal. I have ended the collaboration.”

In a statement provided to Global Times, the technology company stated: “Huawei is a privately owned global company that is in full[y] owned by its own employees and no official or other organization is allowed as owners”.

“If I comment on this that I have been criticized for not doing, it will come back that I have collaborated with Huawei,” said Zara Larsson (translated into English), speaking with TV4 last week.

“If I now look back on it, from a professional and also personal perspective, it was not the smartest deal I have made in my career.

“It’s not something I stand for. Even though Huawei believes that they have no connection to it, it is difficult to prove or disprove.
