Quincy Jones invests in AI Music startup Musimap, which has developed a ‘psycho-emotional profiling engine’

Quincy Jones has made a strategic investment in “Emotional” Artificial Intelligence company Musimap.

The company has developed what it describes as a “psycho-emotional profiling engine” called MusiMe that builds emotional profiles for listeners, detailing mood, feelings and values based on their listening history.

Jones will also act as a special adviser to Musimap, utilising his industry standing to foster relationships and help the business grow.

In addition, CEO and founder of Silicon Castles and former President of Dolby International Andreas Spechtler has also become an investor in Musimap as well as joining the board of directors.

Investment fund and start-up accelerator LeanSquare is also investing in Musimap.

Musimap claims to have developed “the largest AI-powered emotion-sensitive music database to date”.

The company has analyzed and manually annotated one million songs to develop its recommendation system.

Musimap’s AI technology can automatically generate emotional and contextual metadata, 1:1 personality profiles and emotional states of mind purely based on music consumption.

Analysing personality traits based on music consumption appears to be an emerging trend.

Earlier this month MBW broke the news that Spotify was granted a US patent for “Methods and systems for personalizing user experience based on [user] personality traits.”

A scientific article published in July this year entitled, “Just the Way You Are”: Linking Music Listening on Spotify and Personality,  details a research project in which the authors analysed 17.6 million songs and over 662,000 hours of music listened to by 5,808 Spotify users in the United States over a three-month period.

Jones has long been involved in the music technology space, investing in the likes of Spotify in its early days, in addition to piano-learning software Playground Sessions, as well as Jammcard.

His career spans seven decades, with notable achievements including becoming the first African American Vice President of a major record label, as well as producing Michael Jackson’s all-time best-selling album, Thriller.

In 2017 he launched Qwest TV, a service offering high-definition streams of concerts and musical documentaries.
