Description
The Company
Stones Throw Records is an independent record label founded by DJ Peanut Butter Wolf with offices in Los Angeles and London. With a richly diverse roster spanning thirty years, we have released records by Madvillain, J Dilla, Sudan Archives, Benny Sings, NxWorries (Anderson. Paak & Knxwledge), Automatic, John Carroll Kirby, Sofie Royer, and many more, bound not by genre but the drive to release music by the best artists in their field. Our aim is to foster community between our artists and collaborate with each artist on their creative vision.
About the Position
We’re looking for a full-time Project Manager based in our LA office, who can meet the challenge of breaking artists in 2026 and beyond with ambition, energy and flair. In addition to staying organized, managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing a varied workload independently in a busy environment, you will regularly bring original ideas to the table, use your experience to inform strategic choices, and pay close attention to the needs of each individual artist campaign as well as the shifting sands of the music business. Naturally, you will have broad tastes in music and be passionate about the records we release.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in the music industry, along with specific grounding in marketing or project management and demonstrable skill in breaking artists. You’ll be expected to go beyond ‘getting the job done’ – creating label copy, delivering releases to distributors, putting records into production, working with third parties, and performing all the other necessary tasks to build record campaigns – and bring a creative, strategic, and commercially minded point of view to all projects. This role is suited to people who can both take a big-picture view on a campaign while ensuring the details are precisely executed, take real ownership and pride in their projects, and think outside the box.
Stones Throw fosters a collaborative environment where everybody pitches in; therefore a high level of integrity and work ethic, and a strong drive to integrate into the wider team, are essential.
Required Experience
- At least four years of professional music industry experience (e.g. an established record label, music distributor, artist management firm, marketing company and/or booking agency).

- Experience in leading projects through full album cycles for developing as well as established artists.
- Experience in budgeting, creative commissioning, and pitching in the context of the music industry.
- Relationships in music and related industries (e.g. press, radio, booking agencies, brands, tastemakers, etc.).
- Contacts and relationships in the creative services (e.g. video directors, videographers, photographers, designers, etc.).
- Resourceful at working within varying independent label budgets and apt to ensure you deliver the best value for money.
- A knack for storytelling and communication, namely the ability to share information and artist stories clearly and engagingly, and tailor any messaging to different audiences.
- College degree or equivalent experience strongly preferred.

- Create one sheets and sales updates and communicate with distribution to maximize sales.
- Prepare releases for digital and physical production with production manager, designers, and digital staff.

- Pay close attention to detail and ensure all work is done to a high standard.
- Attend label events and artist shows and represent the label in the music community.
