Description
ABOUT OURNESS
Ourness is an award-winning independent artist management, publishing, recording, and creative company building global careers for our artists.
The roster includes Royel Otis, Genesis Owusu and Alli Kate. We specialise in breaking artists and building long term careers.
Our business is scaling alongside additional new artist signings, and release schedules commencing in 2027. We are looking for someone who is incredibly passionate, skilled, and suits the Ourness culture to take the company to the next level with best in class marketing.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The SVP Marketing works across how every Ourness artist is positioned, launched and grown worldwide – across the artist’s whole career, not just the release cycle.
Key Responsibilities
This is a senior role with real ownership, leading and overseeing execution of the strategy across all aspects of the artist project.
Strategy
- Build a multi-year marketing and brand strategy for each artist, tied to their timeline – records, touring, brand, merch, sync, and publishing.
- Set the Ourness marketing operating model: campaign playbooks, budgets, approval rhythms, and how every office works as one team.
- Own the global audience strategy (labels, DSPs, promoters, brands).
- Continue to build first-party fan infrastructure – CRM, email/SMS, fan clubs, D2C stores – so Ourness owns the artist–fan relationship, not just the platforms.
- Define artist brand-equity measures alongside short-term campaign KPIs, so decisions build long-term value, not just week-one numbers.
- Advise the founders on marketing implications of signings, deals, and new business lines.
Execution
- Run release and touring campaigns end to end: rollout plans, creative, content calendars, paid media, DSP pitching, press, and radio coordination.
- Drive ticket sales and tour marketing with agents and promoters across every touring market.
- Ensure attention to detail around creative direction, and branding is always at the forefront of any marketing campaign.
- You will understand brand management, and managing internal and external parties following style guides provided by the head of creative, and creative director of Ourness.
- Lead social and short-form content strategy; know what works on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube this month, not last year, and understand if it’s the right fit for our artists’ culture.
- Have an ability to think disruptively, not just “best practice”.
- Manage paid media budgets directly and report return on spend weekly.
- Hold labels and distribution partners accountable to agreed marketing plans on the artist’s behalf.
- Work closely with the founders on bringing in the right agencies and freelancers.
- Protect artist reputation at all times.
Three Non-Negotiables
1. Global digital marketing leadership
- Own digital strategy across every territory: DSPs, social, YouTube, paid media, CRM, e-commerce, and emerging platforms.
- Run market-specific plans for each priority territory and new growth market, not one global template.
- Build the data and tooling stack – analytics, attribution, audience segmentation.
- Keep the team ahead of platform and algorithm change, including practical use of AI tools in content and targeting.
2. Stakeholder management
- Be the single marketing voice to labels, distributors, and DSPs.
- Work with our artist manager around one plan, and hold external partners to it with clear asks, deadlines, and accountability.
- Keep the founders informed with concise, decision-ready updates.
- Handle hard conversations well: pushing back on a label plan, saying no to a brand, managing artist expectations.
3. Best-in-class process
- Design and embed the systems that let Ourness scale: campaign playbooks, release and tour timelines, budget approvals, asset workflows, and reporting cadence.
- Benchmark against leading management companies and majors, then make Ourness faster, more innovative, and leaner than both.
Who You Are
A senior music marketer who has built artist careers from the management side, can set strategy, and thrives beside hands-on founders and small teams.
Someone who is not afraid to step in where needed, and genuinely loves ideas, film, art, music, and fashion; all of which have been a foundational inspiration in creating Ourness.
Why Management-Side Experience Matters
A label marketer thinks in release windows. A management marketer thinks in career arcs: touring, brand, merch, sync, fan community, and artist wellbeing, all feeding one story. We want someone who has sat on the artist’s side of the table, negotiated with labels as well as run campaigns for them, and knows that the artist – not the format – is the most important thing.
Experience
- 10+ years in music marketing, with at least 5 in an artist management company.
- Label or distribution experience highly considered.
- A track record of taking artists from emerging to global headline level, with numbers to show it.
- Experience leading global digital campaigns across multiple territories, with direct ownership of paid media budgets and data.
- Built or rebuilt a marketing team and its processes inside a growing company.
- Deep industry network in LA with strong global relationships.
- High Performance: Strategy and Execution
- Thinks in career arcs and brand equity, and can turn that into a dated, budgeted plan.
- Hands-on: writes briefs, reviews creative, builds decks.
- Data-fluent and decisive; moves budget on evidence, fast.
- Sets a high bar for yourself and the team, and holds it.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and change; you build structure without adding bureaucracy.
- Low ego, high ownership: no task is beneath you, no problem is someone else’s.
- Protects artist creativity and wellbeing while pushing commercial results.
- Discreet and calm under pressure, including in reputation or crisis situations.
- Right to work in the US (or able to secure it); willing to travel internationally.
