General Manager, London Records
- Reporting to: Managing Director (MD) London Records
- Based: London, Shoreditch
The Headlines
London Records (Because Music Group) is a rapidly expanding independent label, working across both an exciting repertoire of new signings (LDN Records) and a legendary catalogue. We are looking for a General Manager to work with the MD to drive key campaigns plus overall label strategy, organisation and vision. Currently projects include Alewya, Goldie, The Durutti Column, Shadow Child and Orbital.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone who can pair strategic thinking with operational rigour: building, motivating and developing the team, leading major projects, and overseeing marketing . The General Manager will have significant responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and commercial operation of the label, translating the MD’s creative and strategic vision into clear priorities, accountable execution and sustainable growth.
The Role
Strategy, Growth & Vision
- Work with the MD and wider team on shaping the growth strategy and long-term vision for the label.
- Develop campaign strategy across and in collaboration with all departments ensuring joined-up execution.
- Steer key cross-departmental projects, personally leading one to two major label projects each year from strategy through to delivery.
- Partner closely with the MD to translate the label’s creative vision into distinctive, commercially successful campaigns and long-term artist and catalogue development.
- Represent the label at senior leadership level, reporting on performance, risks and opportunities.
- Alongside the DSP Partnerships team, manage relationships with DSPs and digital platforms, staying ahead of streaming and digital trends.
Organisation & Systems
- Review and improve existing operational systems and processes with the internal team across London Records and Because Group.
- Put in place clear organisational structure, ways of working and accountability.
- Provide senior leadership and oversight of the marketing function, ensuring appropriate resourcing, clear priorities and consistently high-quality campaign execution.
- Negotiate and manage agreements with key suppliers, presenting new opportunities.
Finance, Rights & Commercial
- Partner with the MD and CFO to manage the label’s P&L, budgeting and forecasting, taking responsibility for financial discipline, resource allocation and delivery against agreed commercial objectives.
- Develop opportunities with the team for further catalogue exploitation, including sync, licensing and acquisition.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance across label operations.
Team & People Development
- Lead staff development and training, building a strong, motivated and skilled team across the label.
- Ability to communicate effectively across senior leadership through to interns.
- Skills to navigate difficult situations and lead team in trouble shooting and problem solving
- Build and develop a high-performing team and organisational structure that enables the MD to maintain strong focus on A&R, artist development and creative direction.
- Champion AI best practice across the business, identifying tools and workflows that improve efficiency and output.
- Collaborate with colleagues internationally on cross-territory initiatives, keeping London Records aligned with wider group strategy.
- Foster a strong label culture, including staff wellbeing and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
The Person
- Proven experience in a senior management role within a record label.
- Strong leadership skills, with a track record of building, developing and motivating teams. A positive, inspiring attitude.
- Strategic and commercial mindset, with the organisational rigour to turn vision into structure and delivery.
- Marketing fluency, confident shaping and overseeing campaigns across marketing, production and digital channels.
- Comfortable working within a large, international group structure, collaborating across territories and teams.
- A genuine passion for music and an understanding of what it takes to develop artists and catalogue for the long term.
