About Submarine Cat Records…
Launched in 2020, Submarine Cat Records is a London-based independent label built around a community of artists and music enthusiasts. Proudly home to Swim Deep, She Drew The Gun, FEET, Home Counties, Prima Queen, Alabama 3, She’s In Parties, Curse of Lono and Housewife, we champion music makers with something to say.
In just a few years, Submarine Cat has grown into one of the UK’s flagship tastemaker labels. Our label nights and showcases – from The Great Escape and Sound City Liverpool to regular events in London and Paris – are at the heart of our community-building.
Beyond releases, Submarine Cat also runs a YouTube channel with 100K subscribers, home to the SubCat Sessions, a filmed live performance series from our West London studio, alongside a range of original, band-driven content.
At Submarine Cat, our mission is simple: to create a space where artists can thrive, and to build a community that amplifies their voices.
About the role
Submarine Cat is looking for a passionate and driven Product Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Head of A&R and Managing Director, this role is central to the company’s continued growth and success.
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive professional with at least 3 years’ experience working on frontline releases at an independent label, management company, distributor, or artist services company. The ideal candidate will bring a strong track record in release campaign management, digital and physical distribution and marketing strategy.
This role demands someone who is both strategic and hands-on: comfortable leading external teams, coordinating complex release schedules, and looking after the product chain from digital distribution to physical manufacturing. A solid understanding of the current landscape for independent bands and artists is essential, as is a well-established network of industry contacts and the ability to cultivate new relationships.
As Submarine Cat operates with a dedicated and ambitious team, we’re looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative, creative environment – and who genuinely knows and loves our roster, our community, and what we do.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Distribution
- Manage relationships with distribution and manufacturing partners to deliver high-quality, timely releases.
- Manage product uploads and digital distribution to DSPs.
- Oversee physical product creation (vinyl, merch, special editions), ensuring alignment with artist vision and commercial goals.
- Drive direct-to-fan and D2C strategies to maximise pre-orders and ongoing sales.
- Work closely with the distribution team to maximise opportunities for retail promotion, including in-store marketing and performances.
Digital Marketing
- Design and implement innovative digital marketing and social media campaigns in collaboration with artists and managers.
- Manage ad budgets, monitor campaign performance, and optimise spend to achieve growth in audience and engagement.
- Identify emerging platforms, tools, and opportunities to expand the label’s digital footprint.
Campaign Strategy & Management
- Support release campaigns from planning through execution, coordinating external teams (PR, radio, digital, distribution).
- Develop creative, data-driven strategies to maximise impact across both digital and physical formats.
- Oversee timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure campaigns run smoothly and meet targets.
Community & Business Development
- Responsibly represent Submarine Cat at shows, showcases, and industry events, building strong relationships with artists, managers, and partners.
- Act as an ambassador for the label, championing our roster and ethos within the independent music community.
Potential Candidate Attributes
- Proven track record of managing frontline release campaigns.
- Deep understanding of the independent music ecosystem in the UK/EU.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute integrated marketing campaigns (digital + IRL).
- Strong network of industry contacts (DSP reps, pluggers, promoters, press, radio, etc.).
- Solid experience in digital distribution and metadata management.
- Knowledge of physical product manufacturing and distribution (vinyl, merch, special editions).
- Organisational excellence: able to juggle multiple releases and deadlines without dropping detail.
- Creativity and innovation in content and marketing ideas.
- Experience liaising with artists and managers, balancing creative needs with commercial strategy.
- Ability to represent the label professionally at industry events and showcases.
- Skilled communicator: clear with internal teams, external partners, and artists.
- Crisis/problem-solving skills: adaptable when campaigns don’t go to plan.
- Strong grounding in social media strategy and paid advertising.
