Description
VICE PRESIDENT, FINANCE
Connect Music is looking for a hands-on Vice President of Finance to own the numbers, build the finance function, and lead the people who produce them.
This role combines senior financial leadership with direct ownership of execution. We need a leader who is equally comfortable presenting a forecast to the board, reviewing a royalty reconciliation, rebuilding a model, tightening a close, or working alongside the accounting team when something does not tie.
You will own the daily machinery of the company: accounting, payables, receivables, royalty processing, cash management, financial reporting, lender reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and controls.
You will also own the work that requires senior finance ownership: the operating model, budget, forecasting, liquidity planning, margin analysis, board reporting, and the financial judgment leadership relies on to make decisions.
The Vice President, Investments underwrites transactions. In conjunction with the VP, Investments, you will identify how those signings affect the P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, forecast, and long-range plan.
If you know how money moves across the music ecosystem to an artist payment, can build a forecast you are prepared to defend, and want to build and run an institutional-quality finance organization inside a fast-growing independent music company, this role was designed for you.
What You Will Do
Lead the Function and Stay Close to the Work
• Lead the finance and accounting function and own its standards, calendar, priorities, and output
• Operate as a player-coach: lead the team while staying hands-on in modeling, reporting, reconciliations, and controls
• Hire, develop, and manage the finance team as the company grows, including making key additions to the function
• Build systems and workflows that allow the function to absorb growth without adding headcount linearly
• Partner with technology and operations to connect financial systems to the catalog, royalty, and reporting platforms
Own Planning, Forecasting and Analysis
• Build and own the annual operating plan and budget across all entities
• Maintain the long-range liquidity forecast and rolling thirteen-week cash forecast
• Model capital deployment, leverage, repayment, returns, and liquidity under multiple scenarios
• Produce margin and unit economics analysis by revenue line, release, catalog, client, and segment
Direct Daily Finance Operations
• Direct, and when necessary step into, bookkeeping, payables, receivables, expense processing, cash management, and reconciliations
• Own the full royalty processing and artist and songwriter payment cycle, from platform statement through calculation, accounting, approval, and payment
• Review material reconciliations and investigate exceptions personally
• Own banking, payment rails, treasury, and critical vendor relationships
Own the Close, the Books and the Audit
• Own a disciplined monthly, quarterly, and annual close executed against a fixed calendar
• Own revenue recognition across distribution, publishing, owned catalog, licensing, and other revenue streams
• Own the reconciliation between platform reporting, royalty systems, bank activity, and the general ledger
• Design and enforce internal controls appropriate for a company managing institutional capital
• Lead the annual audit and tax process and manage external accounting, audit, and tax advisors
What We Are Looking For
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline
• 6+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least 3 years leading a team with direct accountability for its output
• Experience managing accounting operations across bookkeeping, payables, receivables, reconciliations, and payment processing
• Experience writing, implementing, and enforcing finance and accounting policy
• Demonstrated ownership of an annual budget and recurring reforecast process
• Music industry experience at a label, distributor, publisher, rights administrator, royalty company, or music investment platform
• Experience supporting debt financing, including lender reporting, covenant compliance, and liquidity planning
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP
• Comfort in an entrepreneurial environment where processes are still being built
Strongly Preferred
• CPA, or meaningful public accounting experience in audit or transaction advisory
• Experience with Hyperion, or a comparable planning platform
• Hands-on experience with Curve Royalty Systems or a comparable royalty accounting platform
• Proficiency with SQL, BI tools, or data visualization environments
• Experience establishing an FP&A function
• Experience building and scaling a finance team
• Experience inside a founder-led or high-growth company
The Person Who Will Thrive Here
The person who will thrive here is a senior finance leader who remains comfortable building and interrogating the model personally.
You have reached a senior level without losing the curiosity or technical fluency that got you there. You are comfortable building new systems, improving imperfect ones, and working directly with the team when the details require your attention.
You know when to delegate, when to review, and when to step directly into the work. You enjoy creating structure, improving processes, developing people, and building a finance function capable of scaling with the business.
Location and Travel
Remote within the United States, Tennessee preferred. Regular travel to our Memphis office is required.
