Description

We are looking for an IT Director to lead, mature and operate the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) Technology function- overseeing system adoptions, configurations and transitions while ensuring MCPS’ technology, data, security and integration environment is robust, modern and aligned to our strategic ambitions.

About MCPS
MCPS is the UK collection society that licenses mechanical (reproduction) copyrights on behalf of over 42,000 music publisher, songwriter and composer members. We are entering a pivotal phase of transformation – modernising systems, strengthening data and digital capabilities and building a more agile, technology-enabled organisation. This is an exciting moment to join as we equip MCPS for its next chapter of growth.

The Role
Reporting directly to the COO, the IT Director will shape MCPS’ long-term technology strategy and lead its operational execution – ensuring technology is a critical enabler of MCPS’ growth, operational efficiency and member experience, whether configured internally or delivered through third-party providers. The role also provides appropriate oversight and subject matter expertise across the wider MPA Group where alignment or assurance is required.

What You’ll Do

Technology Strategy

  • Define and own MCPS’s IT and technology strategy, aligned with MCPS’ mission, regulatory obligations, and international rights management requirements.
  • Set out the strategic and operational roadmap of MCPS’ technology estate, including application and platform roadmaps, ensuring clear boundaries between
  • MCPS‑owned domains and vendor‑owned operational systems.
  • Ensure technology decisions align with MCPS and the MPA Group objectives, governance commitments, and Board expectations.
  • Lead the creation and operation of the MCPS Design Authority, ensuring technology is delivered within approved architectural frameworks.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on emerging technologies including AI, and data security & policy.

Integrations & Industry Partnerships

  • Oversee integrations with key industry partners, including third party service providers, licensing partners, publishers, and international collection societies, ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent rights and data flows.
  • Own the relationship with all core technology vendors, including cloud and SaaS providers, acting as the accountable lead for use, payment and management of those systems and platforms.
  • Support the development and oversight of systems required for any forms of licensing directly undertaken, inclusive of usage processing, invoicing, collections and distribution file production.
  • Represent MCPS in relevant industry forums, technology working groups and partner negotiations to strengthen the mechanical right and uphold MCPS’ strategic priorities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise, oversight or support across the MPA Group on technology matters where required.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure technology platforms adhere to regulatory compliance, data protection, security, and governance requirements.
  • Oversee all technology service providers, ensuring SLA performance, roadmap alignment and consistent cross-service integration.
  • Establish and maintain pragmatic technology governance, architecture standards, and delivery assurance frameworks.
  • Manage operational risk related to systems availability, data accuracy, and business continuity.
  • Set and embed MCPS security standards, overseeing cyber risk management, incident response, internal audits, and vendor compliance.
  • Ensure resilience, business continuity, and demonstrable disaster recovery across outsourced services.
  • Govern change management, release assurance, architectural approvals, and technology performance reporting.

Rights Management, Data & Systems

  • Oversee end-to-end data flows supporting repertoire ingestion, matching, licensing, royalty calculation, invoicing, collection and distribution file production.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and auditability of copyright, usage, and financial data across all systems.
  • Lead the development of transparent reporting and data access for members.
  • Have overall accountability for MCPS internal business systems, such as Finance and HR, ensuring they are secure, maintained and utilised efficiently.

Capability Building

  • Manage technology budgets, supplier relationships, and sourcing strategies.
  • Lead a small, high-performing internal technology function, including requisite expertise across engineering, data, architecture, cyber and delivery disciplines.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

About You

Extensive senior technology leadership experience is essential for this role.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Expertise overseeing complex vendor-delivered IT landscapes and operating within outsourced or hybrid delivery models.
  • Substantial experience implementing IT governance frameworks, including change control, design authority, assurance, and cyber security management.
  • Deep understanding of data structures underpinning rights, licensing, usage, and royalty distribution.
  • Experience leading significant technology change, modernisation programmes and cross-functional technology delivery.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience implementing data platforms, analytics, BI tooling and modern integration architectures
  • Experience building sustainable and high-performing IT capabilities.
  • Desirable: Experience within music rights, copyright, royalties, publishing, or collective management environments.

  • 28 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Pension contribution
