Description
We are looking for a talented Communications Manager to join the MPA Group, responsible for delivering the MPA’s communications activity and ensuring the organisation’s strategic narrative is consistently and effectively expressed — keeping the MPA’s profile, influence and presence strong across press, digital and member channels.
The Role
Reporting to the MPA Managing Director, the Communications Manager will be the driving force behind the day-to-day delivery of the MPA’s communications activity, working in close collaboration with the Marketing Manager and supporting the wider MPA Group.
What You’ll Do
Communications Strategy Delivery
- Deliver the MPA’s communications activity, ensuring the communications strategy is suitably aligned to the group of companies’ visions, missions, values and strategies —translating strategic priorities and policy positions into clear, consistent and timely communications that maintain the MPA’s profile and influence.
- Work in close partnership with the Marketing Manager to coordinate a shared communications calendar, ensuring integrated and well-timed activity across all channels.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice across all communications outputs, ensuring all activity accurately reflects the MPA’s values and priorities.
Prepare communications updates for the MPA Board and relevant subsidiary boards, presenting when required. - Track and evaluate the impact of communications activity, reporting regularly to the MPA Managing Director on coverage and effectiveness.
Press and Media Relations
- Build and manage relationships with national, regional and relevant trade press, maintaining an up-to-date contact database and securing positive, accurate coverage of the MPA’s work.
- Draft and distribute press releases, press plans, quotes and speeches to a high standard, acting as a first point of contact for media requests and responding promptly and professionally.
- Proactively identify and develop press opportunities, including news-jacking where relevant to MPA’s agenda, and generate story ideas that advance each company’s profile and reputation.
- Monitor media coverage using appropriate tools, identifying emerging stories about the MPA Group of companies which should be responded to or capitalised on, and reporting on coverage against communications objectives.
Digital and Content
- Develop and manage digital content across social media, MPA’s websites and email campaigns in conjunction with the Marketing Manager, ensuring a consistent brand presence and coordinated social strategy across all platforms.
- Create compelling copy for a range of formats and audiences, including blogs, news stories, member communications and social media.
Member and Internal Communications
- Develop and deliver communications for MPA Group company members, fostering engagement and keeping them informed of activity, priorities and industry developments.
- Develop and deliver internal communications activity to foster employee engagement, share organisational updates and keep teams aligned with the MPA’s mission.
- Respond to general communications related enquiries from members and the public, and liaise with external suppliers such as designers or content producers as and when required.
Events and Outreach
- Support the communications elements of MPA Group events, working with the Sponsorship and Events Manager to ensure events are well promoted and effectively covered.
- Represent the MPA at external events as required.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
- Substantial experience in a communications, PR or media relations role, ideally within the music, creative or cultural sectors.
- Demonstrated experience delivering effective communications strategies and activities across multiple channels and audiences in line with each of the MPA Group business’ strategies.
- Experience building and maintaining press relationships, with an existing network of relevant media contacts.
- Experience producing high-quality written content for diverse audiences, from Board reports and press releases to member newsletters and social media.
- Familiarity with digital marketing tools, CMS systems and social media platforms.
- Experience working collaboratively within a small team, with the ability to flex across tasks as the organisation’s needs evolve.

- Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style consistently across formats and audiences.
- A creative writing capability, with the confidence to challenge conventions and produce fresh, engaging content.
- Effective organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage a varied and demanding workload to tight deadlines.
- Ability to build relationships and communicate clearly across a range of internal and external audiences including press, members and senior stakeholders.
- Sound judgement and the ability to identify and respond to reputational opportunities and risks.
- A proactive, strategic mindset; able to identify communications opportunities, act on them without being prompted, and keep activity moving in line with the MPA Group’s objectives.

Experience working within or alongside a trade association, membership body or not-for-profit organisation
Package
- Salary £40,000 – £45,000 depending on experience
- 28 days holiday plus bank holidays
