Description
Role Mission:
Be the internal point of coordination for everything royalties at NCS – working across Operations and our external royalty platform operator to make sure data flows correctly, statements go out on time, artists get paid, and queries get answered. You’ll sit at the centre of the process, pulling together data from distribution partners, preparing it for our royalty system, reviewing what comes back, and communicating with artists throughout.
Responsibilities:
Reporting Cycles & Accounting:
- Prepare and submit monthly deliverables (costs, advances, transactions, adjustments) to Music Royalty Co (MRC), our outsourced royalties processor
- Review and approve draft statements in Curve before publication – checking for unreported sales, missing contracts, incorrect allocations
- Coordinate adjustment runs with MRC: preparing data files, mapping to Curve contract IDs, handling currency conversions, and agreeing statement timing
- Manage artist setup in Curve: invitations, bank details, self-billing invoices, tax/VAT info, and troubleshooting access issues
- Ensure all contractual accounting deadlines are met (monthly masters, half-yearly publishing) and maintain contract/catalogue integrity across Curve and Airtable
Data Processing:
- Coordinate with distribution partners on revenue data and pull reports from distributor portals
- Build and maintain scripts (we love AI for this) to process, split, and prepare large revenue CSVs for submission to MRC
- Reconcile quarterly publishing statements into NCS’s semi-annual accounting periods
- Handle missing identifiers in raw data and establish processes for allocating or holding unallocated income
Artist Communication:
- Be the primary point of contact for all inbound artist and writer royalty queries
- Respond clearly and professionally – covering statement interpretation, payment timing, contract grouping, and outstanding balances
- Draft and send mass communications as needed and escalate legal or sensitive matters
Process Improvement:
- Own and maintain all royalty process documentation and the artist/shareholder database
- Manage and refine the knowledge base used for artist communications
- Identify inefficiencies and opportunities for automation; build reporting and visibility on royalty status and payment progress
Competencies:
Essential:
- Music Royalty Knowledge: Proven experience in music royalty accounting, ideally across both masters and publishing. Deep understanding of net receipts, participation rates, mechanical deductions, reserves, recoupment, and how DSP income flows through the chain.
- Data & Technical Skills: Comfortable working with large CSVs and complex datasets. We use tools heavily for data processing and scripting, so you don’t need to be a developer, but you do need to be the kind of person who sees a messy spreadsheet and instinctively starts figuring out how to clean it.
Desirable:
- Proficient with AI tools: Using tools like Claude Code to build scripts or internal applications to support in processing of files or responding to queries.
- Experience with Curve or similar royalty platforms.
- Experience with Sentric or similar publishing administration services.
- Familiarity with Airtable or similar operational tools.
