Before today, not many people will have heard of unsigned Manchester act Spring King.
Zane Lowe’s put paid to all that.
The former BBC Radio 1 DJ started his much-anticipated new gig on Apple’s Beats 1 radio station yesterday by playing new track City by the UK four-piece – instantly making them hot property to A&R types around the globe.
The song kicked off the first ever broadcast on Beats 1, which arrived an hour after Apple’s iOS 8.4 update at 8am PST/4pm CET yesterday.
Spring King’s industry team so far includes live agent Jason Edwards at CODA, lawyer Anna Neville at SSB and radio plugger Chris Bellam at Beggars Group.
As a producer, Spring King’s Tarek Musa works with UK independent music group Transgressive.
The band’s manager, Claire Southwick from Primitive Management – who also manages Musa as a producer – told MBW:
“Genuinely blown away that Zane Lowe, someone I’d listen to growing up, decided to play Spring King as the opener to Beats 1 Radio.
“Never expected to be part of something so big by doing what we love. So thanks Zane! And everyone who’s supported us along the way. We can’t wait to share our new music with you soon.”
Transgressive co-founder Tim Dellow told MBW: “I’m thrilled that Zane and his team have continued to take risks and champion developing talent – in the same way that we’ve supported their rise from EP to EP and nurture bands as relationships throughout their journey, it’s a statement of intent that Zane would showcase an unsigned band, positioning a talented new Producer in Tarek Musa as the freshest sound to launch a truly global, open minded music lovers station.”
Southwick also confirmed that, as of around 10pm last night, Spring King remain unsigned.
Everyone in their camp must be delighted with Zane – who also aired City on his Radio 1 show before leaving three months ago.
