‘You are an icon in the truest sense of the word’: Capitol celebrates Sir Paul McCartney in Hollywood

It was the fifth annual Capitol Congress event in Hollywood yesterday (August 8) – and one of the label group’s biggest stars stole the show.

Sir Paul McCartney recorded an hour-long podcast live at the event with WTF host Marc Maron, in front of Capitol Music Group‘s staff and industry partners.

The Beatle’s afternoon discussion at the ArcLight cinema followed presentations/appearances from the likes of Migos, Lil Yachty, Fletcher, No I.D, UMG boss Sir Lucian Grainge, Caroline GM Jacqueline Saturn, Motown President Ethiopia Habtemariam, Capitol Music Group (CMG) COO Michelle Jubelirer, and the Congress’s host, CMG Chairman/CEO, Steve Barnett.

Capitol re-signed McCartney to the label group in 2016, in a deal which covers all McCartney solo material and his work with Wings – including his new album,  Egypt Station, which is set for release on September 7.

Universal and Capitol’s senior team used yesterday’s Congress to present Sir Paul with a special commemorative plaque, which celebrated the fact he’s sold 100m records worldwide since his solo debut album in 1970.

Below, you can read what was etched on the item:
