Warner Music behind Donald Trump Nickelback tweet takedown

A tweet sent by US President Donald Trump was taken down yesterday (October 3) after a copyright complaint was filed against his Twitter account.

The tweet in question contained a clip from Canadian alternative rock band Nickelback’s 2005 music video for their song Photograph.

The video has become a meme, in which the photo held up by Nickelback front man Chad Kroeger at the start of the video is edited to show other photos.

Trump’s version depicted a photo of 2020 Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden on the golf course with a “Ukraine gas exec”.

A notice now states: “This media has been removed in response to a report by the copyright owner.”

Warner Music Group was behind the takedown, reports TorrentFreak, which posted a link to the DMCA notice.

The tweet was sent amidst the Trump/Ukraine/Biden scandal which has led to the launch of an impeachment enquiry.

Nickelback’s song was released by Warner Music Group-owned Roadrunner Records.

As reported by TorrentFreak, this marks the seventh copyright complaint filed against Trump’s Twitter account this year.
