Vampire Weekend’s Baio signs to Glassnote for solo project

Daniel Glass‘s Glassnote Entertainment Group has signed London-based Baio on a worldwide label deal.

Baio is the solo project of Vampire Weekend bassist and backing vocalist Chris Baio.

The artist has released a string of EPs (Mira EP, Sunburn EP) that have attracted critical praise from the likes of Pitchfork, Pretty Much Amazing, Spin and Paste.

Baio’s solo work is dubbed by Glassnote as ‘a continuation of his time as a college radio DJ, where he first fell in love with electronic music’.

Of signing to Glassnote, Baio said, “I’m beyond thrilled to be releasing music on such a world-class label. I’ve been a fan of Glassnote and its artists for years.”

Baio recently completed the recording of his full-length debut, set to be released this summer on Glassnote Records.

He describes it as an album where “Bowie and Ferry-influenced pop songs and dumbsmart arena techno comfortably coexist.”

A world tour is set to follow.

Vampire Weekend have released three studio albums during their career, all on XL Recordings.

The last two, Contra (2010) and Modern Vampires Of The City (2013) were both No.1 records in the US on the Billboard 200.
