Universal’s TuneCore rival, Spinnup, gets UK relaunch via UMOD partnership

Spinnup, the distribution platform originally launched in Sweden in 2013 by Universal Music Group has ‘accelerated’ its presence in the UK via a partnership with Universal Music On Demand (UMOD).

As part of the relaunch, the platform will be branching out into educational, live and commercial ventures in 2019.

Spinnup allows artists to distribute their music to all major streaming platforms whilst keeping 100% of their rights and royalties.

The platform also operates as an A&R tool, with UMOD’s team “constantly listening to new music uploaded”.

The first UMOD artist signings discovered via the platform have been announced as London-based Nigerian afro-pop artist A.T, indie singer-songwriter Devon from The Forest Of Dean, and Italian house producer Manuel Costa.

“The UMOD team are combining their wealth of artist marketing campaign experience and deep understanding of track data analysis with promoting this innovative platform for distributing brand new talent.”

One of the educational ventures to be launched will be the Spinnup Academy – a visual content series featuring senior industry experts.

The label has established links with Abbey Road Institute as well as various key music production schools including BIMM and ELAM. It has also recruited an official network of student “Spinnup Ambassadors” around the country.

UMOD’s sold out showcase at industry conference The Great Escape in Brighton in May kicked off a year of Spinnup-branded events including partnerships with Kiss FM DJs Daisy Maskell & Shortee Blitz, Abbey Road, Sundown Festival and a stage at BBC Introducing Live.

Simon Barnabas, Managing Director, UMOD said: “The UMOD team are combining their wealth of artist marketing campaign experience and deep understanding of track data analysis with promoting this innovative platform for distributing brand new talent; ultimately aiming to identify and sign the very best to the label.

“UMOD are then partnering with these exceptional artists to build a successful music industry career together.”
