Universal’s Bravado starts working with another hot entertainment brand… Paddington Bear

Universal’s brand and merchandise company Bravado has secured a hot new signing.

Are you ready for the US and Canada debut of British character Paddington Bear?

For the uninitiated, Paddington is a children’s character who has a penchant for marmalade – or citrus flavoured jelly, for you US types – sandwiches.

He was dreamed up by UK writer Michael Bond 60 years ago and has appeared in books and countless other formats.

Bravado is now the exclusive licensing agent for the Paddington brand in the US and Canada via a deal with The Copyrights Group.

It follows a similar agreement with the Estate of Prince to serve as the exclusive branding and licensing partner for the late superstar worldwide.

Mat Vlasic, CEO of Bravado, said: “Paddington is one of Britain’s most important and beloved characters and continues to be a symbol of imagination, positivity and family values which resonates with me on a personal level as the father of a young son.

“I’m honored that we have the opportunity to create new ways for fans to live in Paddington’s world.”

Paddington’s adventures have been adapted several times for television and he made his debut onto the big screen at the end of 2014.

The movie, produced by Studiocanal, was the best-selling non-Hollywood family movie ever released.

In 2016, Universal parent Vivendi took full ownership of the Paddington brand worldwide, with the exception of the publishing rights.

A second Paddington movie, Paddington 2, is set to launch globally at the end of 2017.

“We are thrilled that our industry-leading merchandise company will add Paddington to its powerful portfolio.”

Sophie Kopaczynski, Vivendi’s Senior Vice President, Franchise Management, added: “We are thrilled that our industry-leading merchandise company will add Paddington to its powerful portfolio.

“I am confident that this iconic brand will be well represented by the Bravado family, particularly as we head toward the worldwide release of Paddington 2, starring Hugh Grant as part of an international cast, at the end of 2017.”
