UMPG signs deals with HBO, Dreamworks and Dark Knight composer

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) has inked new deals with HBO, DreamWorks and Hollywood composer James Newton Howard.

Under the terms of the DreamWorks agreement, UMPG obtains exclusive administration rights for the studio’s future musical works for the world. DreamWorks Studios is a motion picture company formed in 2009 and led by Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider in partnership with The Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.

UMPG’s world-wide administration deal with HBO was recently completed and includes titles/cues/promos for Arliss, Big Love, Bored to Death, Carnivale, Deadwood, Flight of the Conchords, Entourage, Get Smart, Sex and the City, True Blood and more. HBO’s administration was previously through Warner/Chappell.

UMPG also just completed a worldwide administration deal for the entire James Newton Howard catalogue for works that he controls and future works. James Newton Howard is the award-winning film score composer behind such blockbusters as The Dark Knight, Michael Clayton, The Fugitive, Blood Diamond, and The Prince of Tides, to name a few.

“UMPG is proud to have such major names as HBO, DreamWorks, and James Newton Howard entrust their valuable catalogs to us,” said David Renzer, Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Publishing Group.

“Clearly the faith these companies and composers are demonstrating in our world-wide staff, and proprietary systems (such as Royalty Window), are proof positive of UMPG’s unique strength in administering and providing creative support for Film and Television related catalogs.”

UMPG is already the preferred publisher for some of the most prestigious companies in the motion picture and television industry, such as Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. (which includes Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television Production, and numerous subsidiaries signed by the company in 2009) and the prestigious Universal Pictures and NBC catalogues.

A big selling point to these companies at UMPG is its Royalty Window, an online royalty tracking system that provides clients with ‘complete access and immediate transparency to their royalty and copyright information’.

Other marketing benefits include CD samplers dedicated to film scores, a section of their website customized specifically for composers.

UMPG’s noteworthy film/TV administration deals include Aardman Animation (Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run), All 3 Media, BBC, Beacon Films, Bravo, Canal Plus, CNBC, Celador (“Who Wants To Be a Millionaire”), Decode, Endemol, Focus Features, Fremantle, Gaumont, Greene Street Pictures, Greenlight, Grundy-UFA, Hattrick, IMG TWI, Jettone Films, Moonscoop, MSNBC, Proseiben, Sci-Fi Network, Talkback Thames, TDF, Teamworx, Telemundo, Tiger Aspect, Trio, Universal Pictures, Viz Media, Volta, Wall to Wall, Warner Bros.
