TikTok launches global in-app campaign for POPS, the new album from Japan’s top-selling act Mrs. GREEN APPLE

TikTok has launched a global in-app campaign for Mrs. GREEN APPLE‘s new album, POPS.

According to TikTok, the band is the first Japanese artist to be selected for one of the platform’s artist-specific global campaigns, which it runs with top artists worldwide.

The ByteDance-owned platform’s activation includes an album hub, a profile frame that fans can unlock by completing tasks, and a worldwide community challenge.

POPS is the Universal Music Japan-signed band’s sixth studio album, and their first original studio album since 2023‘s ANTENNA.

The album was released digitally on Tuesday (September 29), followed by its CD release on Wednesday (September 30).

According to TikTok, the campaign hub features the POPS track listing alongside music and video content from the band.

Fans can complete interactive tasks to unlock what TikTok calls an “exclusive” Mrs. GREEN APPLE profile frame.

A separate global community challenge asks TikTok users to complete tasks together in order to unlock further content.

TikTok says the band has more than 2.1 million followers on the platform.

The company said fans regularly use songs including Lilac, Dance Hall, Que Sera Sera, and Inferno to soundtrack videos and share performances on TikTok.

“We’re thrilled to be featured in a global campaign celebrating the release of POPS,” said Motoki Ohmori of Mrs. GREEN APPLE. “We love having fun, and this campaign is really exciting for us.

“Our connection with our fans means more than anything to us, so we’re looking forward to seeing what everyone posts, and to fans around the world experiencing this album, making it their own, and helping us build excitement for this new phase.”

KC You, Head of Artist and Label Partnerships, Asia, for TikTok, said: “Mrs. GREEN APPLE’s music has inspired a passionate and highly creative community on TikTok. From discovering songs and sharing performances to creating something completely original, fans continually find new ways to engage with the band’s music.

“This global experience puts that creativity at the heart of the release of POPS, and we cannot wait to see how the community brings the album to life.”

Fans can find the campaign by searching “Mrs. GREEN APPLE POPS” on TikTok, according to the company.

The band, comprising Ohmori, Hiloto Wakai, and Ryoka Fujisawa, formed in 2013.

They made their major-label debut in 2015 via Universal Music Japan‘s EMI Records label.

In February, Mrs. GREEN APPLE placed at No. 13 on the IFPI‘s Global Artist Chart for 2025, as MBW reported in April.

That was the highest position a Japanese act has reached on the annual ranking, and was driven almost entirely by sales and streams in Japan.

UMG confirmed to MBW that Mrs. GREEN APPLE were Japan’s No. 1 top-selling act in 2025.

Universal Music Japan manages the band, releases their music, runs their fan club, Ringo Jam, and handles their merchandising.

“Mrs. GREEN APPLE reaching No.13 on the IFPI Global Artist Chart is a remarkable achievement, particularly given that their full-scale international expansion has yet to begin,” Naoshi Fujikura, President and CEO of Universal Music Japan, told MBW in April.

UMG Chairman and CEO Sir Lucian Grainge told MBW at the time: “They are a band in the truest sense, and we are eager to bring their music to more fans across the globe.”

The band’s fan-club-only arena tour, Ringo Jam Tour “SHADOWS,” opened in Kagawa on September 30, and is scheduled to run across 28 dates in 13 cities through December.

The POPS campaign is the latest in a run of artist-led in-app experiences from TikTok.

TikTok announced it on the same day it detailed an in-app experience for Taylor Swift‘s single Patient Zero.

The track is taken from The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, released on Friday (September 25), which added four songs to Swift’s 2025 album.

The Swift experience also lets fans unlock a profile frame by completing tasks, including following @taylorswift and @taylornation, saving Patient Zero to a music app, and posting a video using the song.

Fans can also work together to unlock behind-the-scenes clips from the Patient Zero music video, with the campaign set to unfold in phases over the coming week, according to TikTok.

TikTok says Swift has more than 33.4 million followers on the platform.

In June, the platform launched an in-app experience for Olivia Rodrigo‘s album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, offering a custom profile frame and a collective fan challenge to unlock hidden content.

In early July, TikTok rolled out a multi-part campaign for Madonna’s Confessions II, including an in-app experience built around interactive tasks, fan rewards, and profile frames.

Later that month, TikTok announced an experience for Tyla’s album A*POP, which also invited fans to complete challenges to unlock a profile frame.Music Business Worldwide
