The Orchard signs licensing deal with B2B streaming platform Nightlife in Australia

Independent music distributed by The Orchard can now earn public performance revenue in Australia thanks to a deal with business music subscription service Nightlife Music.

Nightlife provides a streaming platform for businesses and venues in the hospitality, leisure, tourism, event, retail and fitness industries, with a reach of over six million people a week.

The Orchard’s catalogue will now be amongst music offered by Nightlife within brand playlists and its in-venue music request app, crowdDJ.

Nightlife promises that rights owners will be correctly paid and its exclusive data will provide a complete overview of when and where content is being used commercially.

Nightlife Director of Licensing and Business Affairs Stuart Watters said: “We are very proud of our reputation as the leader in music innovation in Australia so to have a global company of the calibre of The Orchard trust our technology and our music experience is rewarding.

“this is a watershed deal for our business and creates a benchmark for artist royalty payments.”

“More importantly, the content will be used in a legitimate, licensed environment ensuring the copyrights flow directly back to the creators.

“What it also means for Nightlife clients is the depth of content has been turbocharged, exploding even more variety to our already unique and hand-picked playlists, which of course in turn will make music fans happy.

“It’s a watershed deal for our business and creates a benchmark for artist royalty payments.”

Henry Compton, Director Australia and New Zealand for The Orchard, added: “This is the first time we have done a deal like this in Australia.

“this deal opens up new markets to amplify reach and revenue for our artists and labels with Nightlife established and accountable in a wide range of business sectors.”
