Thåström signs first ever music publishing deal with BMG

Sweden’s most successful rock singer Joakim Thåström – known simply as Thåström – has signed his first ever music publishing contract with BMG Chrysalis Scandinavia.

Thåström has sold over 2.5m albums in Sweden in a 30-year career that has seen him release over 30 LPs.

His career began in the punk revolution with the band Ebba Grön and subsequently embraced an array of projects. His latest album Beväpna dig med vingar went gold ahead of release and his latest sell-out tour has been filmed for a DVD release in October 2012.

The signing of Thåström comes just weeks after BMG appointed seasoned music executive Sanken Sanqvist to expand its operations in Scandinanvia.

Said Sanqvist, “It is a huge honour that Thåström, a legendary artist who effectively wrote the soundtrack for modern Sweden has chosen BMG for his first partnership with a music publisher.”

Until now Thåström’s copyrights have been unavailable for TV and film synch since there was no publishing infrastructure to handle them.

“Thåström’s music resonates over the decades,” said Sandqvist, “and we are determined to unlock its commercial potential.”

BMG Managing Director of European Repertoire Fred Casimir said, “We feel honored that Joakim Thåström has chosen BMG as partner. I am very impressed by his body of work and his integrity. This is a very special signing for BMG.”Music Business Worldwide
