Platoon

Record Label, Distributor

Platoon is an artist services, A&R, and music distribution company owned by Apple Inc.

The London-headquartered firm was co-founded by Denzyl Feigelson and Saul Klein in 2016.

Artists Platoon has worked with since then have included Jorja Smith, Billie Eilish (as distributor), Rex OC, Stefflon Don, and YEBBA.

More recently the company has inked deals with artists such as Victoria Monét, Holly Humberstone, and Sagun.

In December 2018, Apple acquired Platoon for an undisclosed fee, with Klein leaving the business.

Africa expansion

In September 2018, Platoon announced that it had launched in South Africa, the country in which Feigelson grew up.

The expansion saw Platoon take the wraps off its Cape Town Creative Lab (CTCL) which was working with six unsigned artists from South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Through CTCL, which was powered by Apple Music, artists Dope Saint Jude, Kaien Cruz and Sipho The Gift (South Africa) and Shungudzo (pictured), Bantu and Dr Chaii (Zimbabwe) were invited to Mothership Studios in Philadelphia in the Western Cape for a week-long programme.

Platoon’s efforts in Africa grew from this point. It had a number of artists nominated for awards at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2021, including Amaarae, Ami Faku, Simi and Kwesi Arthur.Music Business Worldwide
