Christian Tattersfield

Founder

Christian Tattersfield is the Founder of Good Soldier, and former CEO of Warner Music UK.

He founded publishing company Good Soldier Songs in 2003, followed by recording arm Good Soldier in 2013.

Throughout his career, Tattersfield has worked with artists including Biffy Clyro, The 1975, Damien Rice, Birdy, Freya Ridings, David Gray and more.


Christian Tattersfield: Early career

Christian Tattersfield began his career in music at London Records in 1990, establishing new labels Systematic and Internal there.

In 1997, Tattersfield moved to BMG, where he founded the NorthWestSide imprint, whose signings included Jay-Z, Another Level and ‘N Sync.

Tattersfield joined East West Records as Managing Director, signing David Gray before establishing 14th Floor in 2002 as a joint venture with Warner Music UK. At 14th Floor, he nurtured acclaimed musical talents such as Biffy Clyro, The Wombats, Damien Rice and Ray LaMontagne.


Christian Tattersfield: Running a major and Good Soldier

In 2009, Christian Tattersfield was appointed CEO, Warner Music UK and Chairman, Warner Bros. Records UK, assuming responsibility for the full portfolio of Warner Music’s labels in the UK.

While there, Warner Music saw success with artists including Ed Sheeran, Lianne La Havas, Foals, Cee Lo Green, Rumer, Birdy, The Overtones and Hugh Laurie.

Tattersfield also served as Chairman of the BRITs Committee in in 2013 and 2014.

In 2013, Tattersfield announced his planned 2014 departure from Warner, to “focus on entrepreneurial projects”. He agreed a distribution deal for new record label, Good Soldier, with Warner’s ADA, expanding the publishing company he founded in 2003.

In 2019, Good Soldier Songs was acquired by Downtown Music Publishing. Good Soldier Records remains independent, and has had success with acts Freya Ridings, Gavin James and Jubël, whose Dancing In The Moonlight was originally released in 2018 and had airplay success in 2020. Tattersfield told MBW at the time: “We’ve been working this song for the last two years and it is gold or platinum in 5 countries and has over 150 million global streams to date. We are now looking to push on and take this to over half a billion.”

He added: “Having the No.1 airplay record in the UK is important not just for this single but also to show a new independent British label can compete at the top level.”
