Sweden’s Border Music expands into Denmark, Norway and Finland

Sweden-based distributor Border Music is expanding across Scandinavia. And while it might seem everyone else in the region is streaming obsessed, the company’s focusing on physical music.

In recent months, Border – which operates physical distribution locally and digital distribution globally – has opened offices in Denmark and Norway. And its has now confirmed that it will kick start 2015 with a new office in Finland.

Border Music GM Pelle Eriksson claimed that all four offices, which operate from a central warehouse in Gothenburg, can reach all stores in the Nordic region within 48 hours.

Border is also expanding into other services, starting what it calls a ‘refined’ promotional department, Border Promo Division. This will also cover Scandinavia, dealing with both in-house and external projects.

Eriksson said: “We are probably based in the part of the world where streaming is most dominant, which have led to that some distributers have more or less given up on physical. We go the other way; There is still a good demand for vinyl and CDs out there, even if numbers on big titles gone down drastically. But catalogue is doing very well, the long tail is longer than ever up north!”

Border Music Distribution AB is the biggest independent record distributor in Sweden, with a market share of about 8%

Border partnered with [PIAS] in 2012, operating as [PIAS] Nordic. The two companies maintain a physical distribution relationship.

Records recently distributed from Border have come from artists including John Grant, Anthony & The Johnsons and Flying Lotus (pictured).Music Business Worldwide
