Spring Aspers promoted to President, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, Music

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has promoted Spring Aspers to President, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, Music.

Aspers will oversee all music-related aspects of the motion picture group’s labels including creative, licensing & publishing, production, and promotion.

Most recently, Aspers was key in assembling a roster of artists including Swae Lee, Post Malone, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne to write new music for the Academy Award-winning animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The lead single Sunflower reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, is over 8 times platinum with an estimated 2 billion+ worldwide streams, and is now tied with the all-time record as one of only three songs to occupy space inside the Top 10 of the Hot 100 for 33 weeks.

“Spring is simply an irrepressible power source.”

Aspers was instrumental in recruiting Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum artist Eminem to create an original song and music video for the studio’s hit film, Venom, which captured more than 14 million views in less than 24 hours.

She also worked with composer Thomas Newman on the Academy Award-nominated score for Passengers, and with Edgar Wright on the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for the critically-acclaimed original film, Baby Driver, which led to a No.1 soundtrack on iTunes, outperforming individual artist releases.

For the studio’s upcoming motion picture, Charlie’s Angels, Aspers is working with Ariana Grande to executive produce the soundtrack and lead single, Don’t Call Me Angel, with Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Ray, which debuted at No.1 on iTunes in 54 territories.

In January, Aspers will release the Bad Boys for Life soundtrack with Epic Records, a Sony Music label.

Aspers joined Sony Pictures Entertainment a decade ago as EVP Music Creative Affairs. Her career began at an independent music supervision company where she worked with filmmakers such as the Coen Brothers on The Big Lebowski.

She later launched Island Def Jam Records’ soundtrack department, working with artists such as Jay Z, Kanye West, Rihanna, The Killers, Justin Bieber, and Fall Out Boy, and produced soundtracks for films like 2 Fast 2 Furious, Jackass, and Spider-Man – for which she received an American Music Award.

“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to work with extraordinary filmmakers, artists, musicians and executives to develop music for film that has a lasting cultural impact.”

“Spring is simply an irrepressible power source,” said Sanford Panitch, President of Columbia Pictures.

“Sitting atop a large platform that includes overseeing composers, scores, and soundtracks for dozens of movies a year in addition to being our bridge to the Sony Music side along with everything else in her life, I don’t know how she does it all.

“We have so much respect for her and this new title is hugely well deserved.”

Aspers added: “I want to thank Tom, Sanford, Josh and everyone at Sony Pictures for their support.

“I’m honored to be part of such a forward-thinking company. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to work with extraordinary filmmakers, artists, musicians and executives to develop music for film that has a lasting cultural impact.”Music Business Worldwide
