Spotify ramps up focus on live music events in the US

Spotify is increasing its focus on live music in the US with the hiring of two producers who will launch urban and latin music themed concerts, performances, events and installations.

Based in New York, two job roles currently being advertised for a Producer, Live Events: Urban and a Latin version will directly lead the planning, production, and promotion of tours alongside external co-promotion partners like Live Nation.

The move will expand upon Spotify’s RapCaviar Live US hip-hop six-date concert series that took place last year, featuring artists including Gucci Mane and Mike WiLL Made it.

In the UK, the streaming service launched its first ever large-scale live music event in London in November.

“[You will] collaborate to produce live extensions (concerts, performances, events, installations) of our Urban playlist brands that amplify our programming and connect artists and fans.”

Titled Who We Be, the gig took place at Alexandra Palace with a stellar line-up of UK urban artists including Bugzy Malone, Dizzee Rascal, Giggs, J Hus and Stefflon Don.

In the US, the Producer, Live Events: Urban will work to produce extensions of urban playlist brands.

The role requires someone who has creatively developed and ran various live music programs and tours in multiple markets, particularly for urban music.

The ad says that the successful candidate will “collaborate to produce live extensions (concerts, performances, events, installations) of our Urban playlist brands that amplify our programming and connect artists and fans”.

It adds: “Along with our external co-promotion partners (i.e. LiveNation), [you will] directly lead the planning, production, and promotion of tours, with regard to the objectives of the Spotify brand and the content teams you’ll collaborate with.”

Producer, Live Events: Latin will do the same for its latin playlist brands and candidates must be fluent in Spanish and English.

A host of senior music execs have departed the streaming service recently ahead of its direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange, which is expected at the end of March.
