Spotify has named Michael Krause as Managing Director of EMEA – poaching the respected Berlin-based exec from rival Deezer.

Krause was formerly Vice President, Central/Eastern Europe at Deezer, as well as CEO, EMEA.

MBW is told he made the jump to Spotify last month.

His main task at Spotify is to supervise international markets across EMEA, as well as overseeing operations in German-speaking countries. He has a particular focus on content and local partnerships.

In his role at Deezer, Krause was responsible for more than 100 markets.

Prior to joining Deezer in 2014, he was Managing Director GSA at MyVideo.de (Magic Internet GmbH) and at Ampya (ProSiebenSat1 Media Group), which he also co-founded.

Spotify is expected to launch a ‘direct listing’ attempt on the NYSE in the coming months.

The service surpassed 60m paying subscribers back in July – adding more than 2m subs in each month of 2017 up to that point.

Len Blavatnik‘s Access Industries is the majority shareholder in Deezer, which remains HQ’d in Paris.Music Business Worldwide
