Spotify is testing an in-app feature to create podcasts using Anchor

Spotify is reportedly testing a button for users to create podcasts from within its app, using Anchor.

The unreleased feature was spotted by Jane Manchun Wong, who writing on Twitter on Tuesday (August 27), said that “Spotify is testing ‘Create podcast’ button to funnel their app users to Anchor, a podcast creation platform that Spotify recently acquired. It’s interesting there is a Brazil version of the Anchor promo page”.

Anchor was one of two New York-based podcast companies (alongside Gimlet Media) acquired by Spotify in February for $343 million combined.

The company offers a free-to-use podcast creation, distribution and monetization platform that says its mission is to “democratize audio”..

In May Spotify published a news post on Spotify for Artists encouraging artists to make their own podcasts using Anchor.

Speaking to The Verge, Spotify said: ”We are always testing new products and experiences to improve the overall Spotify experience.

“Some tests will eventually make way for upgrades to our product, others are only tests. We have no further news to share at this time.”

Jane Manchun Wong also noticed earlier this month after “looking into the code underneath the Spotify Android app” that Spotify is developing a Stories feature for its PlaylistsMusic Business Worldwide
