Spotify inks multi-year exclusive deal for The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, including audio and video

Hugely popular podcast The Joe Rogan Experience is launching exclusively on Spotify via a multi-year licensing deal.

The talk series has long been the most-searched-for podcast on Spotify, according to the release announcing the deal, which adds that the show “is the leading show on practically every other podcasting platform”.

The JRE will debut on Spotify on September 1, 2020, and become exclusively available on the platform later this year.

Rogan told his 9.4m followers on Instagram earlier today (May 19): “Starting on September 1 the podcast will be available on Spotify as well as all platforms, and then at the end of the year it will move exclusively to Spotify, including the video version. It will remain FREE, and it will be the exact same show. It’s just a licensing deal, so Spotify won’t have any creative control over the show. They want me to just continue doing it the way I’m doing it right now.

“We will still have clips up on YouTube but full versions of the show will only be on Spotify after the end of the year. I’m excited to have the support of the largest audio platform in the world and I hope you folks are there when we make the switch!”

Launched in 2009, the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) sees Rogan bring his sensibilities as a stand-up comic to the show, which features diverse guests, covering far-ranging topics including neuroscience, sports, comedy, health, infectious disease, and our ever-changing culture.

“We will still have clips up on YouTube but full versions of the show will only be on Spotify after the end of the year.”

In a further video statement, Joe Rogan said: “Starting on September 1, the entire JRE library will be available on Spotify as well as all the other platforms and then somewhere around the end of the year, it will become exclusive to Spotify including the video version of the podcast.

“It will be the exact same show. I am not going to be an employee of Spotify, we’re going to be working with the same crew, doing the exact same show.

“The only difference will be that it will now be available on the largest audio platform in the world. Nothing else will change. It will be free. It will be free to you, you just have to go to Spotify to get it.

“We’re very excited to begin this new chapter of the JRE and I hope you’re there when we cross over.”Music Business Worldwide
