SoundExchange nabs MixRadio strategy chief and Live Nation comms boss

US collection society SoundExchange has hired Mark Eisenberg as SVP, Strategic Initiatives and Jacqueline Peterson as SVP, Communications.

Eisenberg most recently served as Global Head of Content Acquisition and Strategy for MixRadio, a mobile personalised radio service operated by Microsoft. The platform is now owned by Japan-based messenger app owner Line, after an acquisition from Microsoft was agreed in December.

Prior to MixRadio, he spent more than 15 years as the Executive Vice President and Head of Business & Legal Affairs for the Global Digital Business Group at Sony Music Entertainment.

Peterson comes to SoundExchange from Live Nation Entertainment where she served as SVP of Corporate Communications since mid-2012. She brings two decades of expertise in the entertainment and high tech industries to SoundExchange.

Peterson has previously worked as Director of PR for Ticketmaster and as the Strategic External Communications Director for Caesars Entertainment Corporation.

“I’m extremely excited to welcome Mark Eisenberg and Jacqueline Peterson to our team. Their collective experience in the music industry is immeasurable. Both have proven track records of strategic leadership and helping the industry succeed,” said SoundExchange President and CEO Michael Huppe, who recently announced record annual payouts of $773m to artists and labels in 2014.

“SoundExchange is only as good as the people who work for it and we pride ourselves on attracting the best talent. With these new additions, our team is stronger than ever and poised to achieve even greater success in 2015. Their knowledge and experience of the music industry will be invaluable to SoundExchange and we are thrilled to have them join our organisation.”

In his new role at SoundExchange, Eisenberg will head up new applications for SoundExchange’s royalty distribution platform, as well as fostering relationships with licensees and working with record labels and recording artists to identify new ways SoundExchange can help the music community.

“I am thrilled to be joining SoundExchange, an organisation that represents the rights of recording artists and record labels and which is committed along with our many partners to the continued growth and longevity of the digital music marketplace,” he said. “I look forward to forging new relationships that will further reinforce SoundExchange’s role in today’s evolving digital music industry.”

Peterson will be responsible for leading SoundExchange’s internal and external communications, marketing and public relations efforts.

“SoundExchange is a great organization at the nexus of music and technology. I look forward to helping SoundExchange build an even stronger brand – and to helping music creators secure their financial future,” said Jacqueline.

SoundExchange collected performance royalties on behalf of recording artists and master rights owners in the US for the use of their content from satellite radio, Internet radio, cable TV music channels and other services. It is the only entity in the United States to collect and distribute these digital performance royalties from more than 2,500 services. SoundExchange has paid out more than $2 billion in royalties since its inception.
