SoundCloud strapped for cash? It’s got enough money to hire a new VP…

DeJuan
There have been rumours circulating online this month that SoundCloud may be running low on funds.

Whether or not that’s true, it’s certainly not broke: the loss-making Berlin-based music streaming service has just hired a new VP of Global Marketing and Brand, DeJuan Wilson (pictured).

Wilson will be responsible for building and developing the global marketing function of the company, working on ‘communicating a compelling value proposition for current and prospective listeners and creators’.

SoundCloud’s announcement adds that Wilson ‘will be focused on establishing a brand dialogue and transforming the audio platform into a lifestyle brand’.

He’ll be reporting to Eric Wahlforss, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, SoundCloud.

“DeJuan has a remarkable track record of building brands and running global marketing campaigns,” said Wahlforss.

“We’re excited to bring DeJuan on board as we continue to scale our platform and bring SoundCloud – and the 100 million tracks on our platform – to more and more creators and listeners.”

Wilson has 18 years of marketing experience.

Most recently, he was the Senior Vice President, Brand Strategy and Creative Marketing for the MTV2, MTVU and Logo networks at Viacom, where he was responsible for show campaigns across television, print, experiential and digital.

Prior to his time at Viacom, Wilson was the Senior Director, Global Brand Marketing at Cole Haan.

Additionally, he has worked in marketing leadership positions at Converse and Sean John. A dynamic brand builder, DeJuan also held positions of increasing responsibility in brand and consumer marketing at The Coca-Cola Company, where he worked for over ten years.

Wilson will start on August 3rd and be based in SoundCloud’s NYC office on 5th Avenue.

A new subscription service from SoundCloud is expected to launch this year, fully licensed by Warner Music Group and independent music commercial rep Merlin.
