Sony/ATV strikes JV with Magic! manager Charles Chavez

Sony/ATV has launched a publishing joint venture with Charles Chavez and his company Latium Entertainment.

L.A. based Chavez has previously looked after acts such as Pitbull, Chamillionaire, Frankie J and Baby Bash.

His current roster includes MAGIC!, Danny Mercer, Heymous Molly, Benj the Rapper and new signings Shy Carter and Kat Dahlia.

Latium’s tie-up with Sony/ATV arrives after it struck a label joint venture with Sony Music International, with distribution from RCA Records, in February.

Martin Bandier, Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO, said: “It’s only natural having worked closely with Charles while he looked after Pitbull, one of our most renowned artists, that we would want to continue our relationship with him. Charles will find hit artists and help them to have hits.”

Danny Strick, Sony/ATV Co-President, U.S., said: “Charles has an undeniable talent and energy for developing and breaking artists.

“We are very excited to be working with him to build his brand in the world of music publishing.”

Latium Entertainment CEO Charles Chavez (pictured with Bandier) said: “I want to thank Marty, Danny and Rick Krim for their confidence in our ability to identify global hitmakers, whether it be artists, songwriters or producers.

“Marty called me the other day to say ‘Go get some hits’ and I am on it. It is that simple.”

Chavez, who has run Latium Entertainment since 1999, has long had a close relationship with Sony/ATV.

This includes Sony/ATV publishing his one-time client Pitbull, with hits including the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s “Give Me Everything” and “Timber”.

Sony/ATV also publishes Nasri Atweh, songwriter and lead singer of the Chavez-managed MAGIC! whose single “Rude” spent six consecutive weeks at No.1 on the Hot 100 last year, selling more than 3 million downloads, while it also topped the charts in a number of other countries, including the U.K.

Chevez is additionally responsible for bringing in the Sony/ATV co-published single “Honey I’m Good” by Andy Grammer into his Sony International label joint venture for the world outside the U.S., Canada and Australia through Steve Greenberg’s S-Curve label. “Honey I’m Good” has reached the Top 10 in both the U.S. and Canada.Music Business Worldwide
