Sony/ATV makes entire catalogue available online

Sony/ATV has made its entire global catalogue available online for potential licensees – something it says is a worldwide music business first.

From today, Sony/ATV’s whole catalogue can be viewed and downloaded on its website, by interested parties. This includes the 1.3 million songs acquired last year as part of EMI Music Publishing.

Universal Music Publishing is expected to make a similar move, making its catalogue available online, in the next few days.

Martin Bandier, Sony/ATV chairman and CEO said: “As the world’s leading music publisher we want to ensure that existing users, prospective licensees and those with a need to access our extensive song list are provided with that capability.

“We are thrilled to announce today that the company is taking the next step and offering a greater level of transparency by enabling our global catalogue to be accessible upon request.”

Authorised users can search by song name, alternative titles and composer, as well as other information including country of origin.

“I am pleased to see Sony/ATV is taking a leading role by making its entire catalogue available,” said David Israelite, President and CEO of the National Music Publishers’ Association in the US. “This is an important step in making the licensing process even more transparent and one which I fully endorse.”

Sony/ATV’s catalogue comprises millions of songs by hundreds of thousands of artists, composers and songwriters, including The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, The Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder and current chart-topping names including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, P!nk, Taylor Swift and Pharrell Williams.Music Business Worldwide
