Sony partners with newly launched French label Rupture Records

French advertising agency Rupture has launched a record label and signed a distribution deal with Sony Music.

Rupture Records releases will be distributed by Sony Music in France and The Orchard for the rest of the world.

Alongside a label, the company owns a vinyl record store in Paris with two more set to open in New York and Los Angeles this summer, and an advertising agency.

Rupture was founded by Alexandre Sap earlier this year.

The exec previously founded label Recall, music and marketing firm The Hours and ad agency Forward.

Over the past 15 years, Sap has developed global campaigns for brands such as Cartier, Hermès, Dom Perignon, Fendi, Estée Lauder, Chanel, DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger and Galeries Lafayette.

Brand and artist partnerships he’s been involved with include Jay Z for Hublot, Lady Gaga for Michael Kors, Lou Reed, Marion Cotillard and Phoenix for Cartier, the Ting Tings for Tommy Hilfiger and J Cole with Bally.

“I decided to call our agency Rupture because we need to completely rethink short term development politics for bands and labels we’re going to develop for the next years.”

Discussing Rupture, Sap said: “I decided to call our agency Rupture because we need to completely rethink short term development politics for bands and labels we’re going to develop for the next years.

“What short term profitability diktats and those new instantaneousness trends show is a lack of substance.

“Rupture is a new dawn for modernity. We’re going to give a soul to our structures, free them from the shackle of time and imagine a world where the most profitable and successful companies are those that have valued beauty and goodness.

“We stand up for a slow revolution, and in this battle we need to identify all the weak signals and federate public speeches to make it powerful and fill it with our values audacity, agility and ambition. Slow is fast is what Rupture stands for.”

Upcoming Rupture Records releases include a project from Canadian folk singer Alejandra Ribera, Human, the solo project from the lead singer of British band Grand National and a new album from Chris Stills.

Also in the works is a solo album from the leader of New York band The Virgins, Donald Cumming, and a collaboration between Tunisian artist Mounir Troudi and U2 producer Brian Eno.
