Sony Music’s ex-boss in China, Timothy Xu, named CEO of Taihe Music Group

Timothy Xu, the former Chairman and CEO of Greater China at Sony Music, has been named President & CEO of Taihe Music Group (TMG).

Xu has worked in the Chinese music industry for the past 25 plus years. Most recently, from 2012 to 2016, he served as Chairman & CEO, Greater China for Sony, overseeing the major’s business activities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Taihe Music Group (TMG) is the largest provider and operator of Chinese music in the world. In 2015, the company – which operates nine record labels – merged with Chinese music platform Baidu.

Today, TMG estimates that it reaches more than 500m users through its Baidu music player, Showstart app, LavaRadio, and online fans community, plus other interactive tools.

At TMG, Xu will report to Qian Shimu, Chairman, Taihe Music Group.

Xu will help oversee the music group’s business operations and development, and help execute Qian’s long-term strategic plans.

From 2002 to 2012, Xu founded New-Style Entertainment and Da-Jam Pro International, with business activities extending to artist management, music production and concert promotions in China.

Earlier, from 1994 to 2002, Xu is credited with having re-established EMI Music’s presence in China, serving as chief representative, EMI Music China and GM, EMI Music Publishing China.Music Business Worldwide
