Sony Music GSA to move HQ from Munich to Berlin in 2020

Sony Music Entertainment Germany, Switzerland, Austria CEO Patrick Mushatsi-Kareba has called Berlin “the epicenter of culture and creativity in Germany” as the company prepares to move its regional HQ from Munich to the German capital in 2020.

The news of the move follows reports in January that Sony Music UK looks set to ink an agreement to relocate from its current base in Derry Street, West London to Kings Cross in North London over the next three years.

Current Berlin residents include BMG, Universal Music Germany, (which moved its HQ from Hamburg to Berlin way back in 2001) and SoundCloud, plus countless other startup and long-established music and technology companies such as Ableton and Native Instruments.

Daniel Lieberberg, who joined the major label as President, Continental Europe and Africa in January 2018 was already based in Berlin after jumping ship from Universal Music Germany.

The new building Sony Music GSA has entered into a long-term lease agreement for is an approximately 90,000 square foot space at Bülowstraße 80, Berlin-Schöneberg.

Sony Music’s existing Berlin operations, including offices located in Schlegelstraße and Rosenthaler Straße, as well as the headquarters of Sony Music Continental Europe & Africa, will be combined in the new seven-floor office building, located in the up-and-coming, art district of Potsdamer Straße in what was formerly West Berlin.

Sony Music GSA will continue to maintain operations at its location at Balanstr. in Munich following the move to Berlin.

“Berlin is the epicenter of culture and creativity in Germany, and we are thrilled to be moving to a modern building in one of the city’s most vibrant and desirable areas.”
