Sony Music Entertainment inks multi-platform media deal with Jason Owen’s Sandbox Entertainment

Sandbox Entertainment President/CEO Jason Owen and Sony Music Entertainment’s (SME) Premium Content Division have inked a development agreement to produce a slate of original long-form projects across multiple platforms and distributors.

Under the multi-year agreement, Sandbox Productions and SME will collaborate on the creation, production and distribution of scripted and unscripted content across TV, film and digital formats, including the development of a June Carter Cash documentary film.

Owen is co-President of Monument Records (an imprint of Sony Music Entertainment).

Prior to launching Sandbox Entertainment in 2010, he also served as SVP of Artist Development and Marketing for Universal Music Group Nashville and Senior Director of Marketing and Talent Relations at Columbia TriStar Television.

Sony teamed up with Owen and producer/writer Shane McAnally to launch Nashville-based Monument, in 2017.

Featuring access to the Cash Estate, including “never before heard” interviews with Cash family members and archival footage, the June Carter film will trace June Carter’s roots and her musical journey, says Sandbox Productions and SME.

The companies have also partnered on the premiere of LOVE,TOM, a film narrated by Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe nominated songwriter Tom Douglas.

Sandbox’s partnership with SME will see it consult and collaborate with a network of writers, directors, on-screen talent, musical artists, and visual artists to provide creative direction on additional new and developing projects, says Sandbox Productions and SME.

SME’s Premium Content Division will distribute and finance all joint-venture projects.
