Social app Clubhouse launches on Android

Invite-only social media app Clubhouse is now available in beta to Android users.

After over a year of exclusivity to the iOS store, the app is rolling out its beta version to Android users in the US. The UK and other English speaking markets will follow in the coming days, says Clubhouse in a blog post.

Clubhouse says this has been the most requested feature from its community of users and is a “significant marker” in the next phase of its growth.

Clubhouse will continue to be invite-only, a feature that allows its existing users to invite a small number of friends to the app.

In its blog post, Clubhouse says its plan over the next few weeks is to collect feedback from the Clubhouse community, fix any performance issues and add features such as direct-to-creator payments and club creation before rolling it out more broadly.

The social media company also says it plans to welcome “millions” of users currently on the iOS waitlist, expand its language support and add more accessibility features.

Until now, despite being iPhone exclusive, the Clubhouse app has topped at least 8 million downloads since October.

According to MarketWatch, Clubhouse was valued at $1 billion in its most recent round of funding.

Android users can download Clubhouse now and sign up to be added to its waiting list.Music Business Worldwide
