Slip.Stream inks music licensing partnership with podcast firm Acast

Royalty-free music platform Slip.Stream has struck a new partnership with podcast company Acast, providing the latter access to a library of over 70,000 songs for content creation.

As part of the new deal, all 100,000 Acast podcasters will receive complimentary ‘Pro Level’ access for six months, along with an exclusive discount offer for an annual Pro plan thereafter, according to a press release.

Acast, established in 2014, serves as a podcast marketplace, connecting podcast creators, advertisers, and audiences. Its marketplace spans over 100,000 podcasts, 2,300 advertisers, and boasts 400 million monthly listens. These listens are accordingly monetized across all podcasting platforms.

Stockholm-headquartered Acast is listed on the Nasdaq First North Premier Growth Market.

Veronika Taylor, Senior Vice President of the Creator Network at Acast, said: “Whether it’s used for intros or outros, or to set a tone or drive action in a plot, music is an important element that makes a podcast memorable and engaging for listeners.”

“Now, through this partnership with Slip.Steam, Acast is making it even easier for podcasters to discover the right song for every transition, story climax, and anything else in their creative process,” Taylor added.

According to Acast’s research, 85% of listeners have noted an improvement in the quality of music in podcasts in recent years. Additionally, 74% express a preference for podcasts that employ music to establish the tone and mood of an episode, while 60% favor podcasts ads accompanied by music.

“Music has the power to evoke the full spectrum of human emotion. Podcasters know how to tell a compelling audio story, but can often be challenged to find songs that fit their creative needs and are safe to use on their podcast,” said Jesse Korwin, Chief Marketing Officer at Slip.Stream.

“Through this partnership, Acast and Slip.Stream are helping more podcasters enhance their storytelling and create more engaging content for their audiences by giving them access to more than 70,000 songs they can begin using in their podcast production.”

Slip.Stream offers creators access to over 70,000 creator-safe tracks and 60,000 sound effects. The platform serves a user base exceeding 300,000, providing creators access to music from known record labels and artists, alongside AI tools for swift content curation.

Slip.Stream counts Sony Music Entertainment among its backers. In May 2022, it raised $7.5 million in its Series A financing from Sony, Third Prime, and Lightshed Ventures, after raising $3.25 million from its initial funding round a year prior.

The company, which describes itself as a “creator safe music platform” was launched by entrepreneurs David Carson (Fuse, Heavy.com, New Stand founder), Dan Demole (Jingle Punks founder) and Jesse Korwin (Jingle Punks CMO). Nearly two years ago, T-Pain joined Slip.Stream’s advisory board.

Earlier this year, the company partnered with Insomniac Music Group, which houses a number of labels in the electronic music space, to provide claim-free music to the latter’s more than 200,000 creators.
