Scandinavian Songs rebrands to Cosmos Music Publishing

Scandinavian Songs — a leading Swedish independent music publisher that exclusively represents Imagem, Songs, Bucks, Mute and many more in the Nordic region — is rebranding to Cosmos Music Publishing.

The name change comes two years after the company was acquired by Swedish indie label Cosmos Music.

During the period of integration, Cosmos has added staff, financial resources and instilled a renewed focus on creative and marketing synergies between label and publishing.

Alongside those mentioned above, Cosmos Music Publishing represents Budde, Native Tongue, Mushroom, Manners McDade, Because, Origin, CTM and Pulse.

In total, the company represents and markets around half a million copyrights for the Nordic region.

It is led by music publishing veterans Hans Desmond and Fredrik Ekander.

Ekander said: “I am very proud that some of the world’s most established indie publishers have chosen us to represent them for the Nordics.

“Through the creative and administrative integration between our label and publishing companies, Cosmos Music now occupies a truly unique position in the Swedish music industry.”

“Through the creative and administrative integration between our label and publishing companies, Cosmos Music now occupies a truly unique position in the Swedish music industry as an all round, full service and 100% independent music company in one of the great songwriting capitals of the world.”

“Representing these great international indie publishers and their simply amazing repertoire makes us a serious force to be reckoned with.”

Desmond added: “Representing these great international indie publishers and their simply amazing repertoire makes us a serious force to be reckoned with.

“In the last 12 months we have seen a significant increase in licensing requests, partly thanks to the added resources from Cosmos Music, of course, but also simply because of the combined wealth of fantastic copyrights that we now offer.”

The Scandinavian Songs brand will now be used as a label imprint to release one-off singles, writer/producer driven projects, and other publishing related material (like masters controlled by the international publishing partners).

Releases will be overseen by Cosmos Music’s joint label and publishing A&R group.

Cosmos Music Publishing aims to provide its partners with opportunities for creative collaborations through songwriting camps and sessions in Sweden and worldwide.

Creative Director Peo Nylén, who is also the Chairman of Musikmakarna Songwriting Academy, explained: “At any given time we are either organising, or participating in, songwriting camps here in Sweden or sending our writers to Tokyo, London, Seoul or LA to write directly for international projects in close collaboration with our partners.

“Or, we’re hosting sessions for visiting UK, US and Asian writers and artists here at our seven songwriting studios in Stockholm.

“With this vast network of indie publishers that we now work with around the globe, there is never any shortage of new projects to look into or new co-writes to initiate.”
