Tim & Danny Music and Warner Chappell Music have signed an exclusive worldwide publishing agreement with superstar singer and songwriter Sam Smith through a new joint venture, covering all future works.
The multi-platinum, 4x-Grammy, Brit, Golden Globe and Oscar award-winning pop star is known for a long list of chart-topping hits such as Stay With Me, I’m Not The Only One, Lay Me Down, Too Good at Goodbyes, Dancing With A Stranger (With Normani), and more.
This deal also signifies the first signing to come from Tim & Danny Music and Warner Chappell Music’s new long-term publishing partnership.
The two companies have joined forces to identify and nurture top songwriting talent with a focus on the UK and international markets.
Historically, Tim & Danny Music has been administered by Sony Music Publishing, but the former company’s British co-founders – Tim Blacksmith and Danny D – have a longstanding relationship with now-Warner Chappell CEO, Guy Moot.
Sam Smith’s prominence in the UK came after collaborations with Disclosure on the single, Latch in 2012 and Naughty Boy’s UK No.1 single La La La in 2013.
Smith’s global career took off from there with the release of their Capitol Records debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, in 2014, which included the RIAA diamond-certified worldwide sensation and UK chart-topper, Stay With Me.
The RIAA 5x multi-platinum album went on to earn Smith their first Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year, both for Stay With Me (Darkchild Version), in addition to Best Pop Vocal Album and Best New Artist.
In 2015, Smith joined forces with Jimmy Napes on Writing’s on the Wall, the theme song for the James Bond movie Spectre, which won the Golden Globe Award and Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Two years later, Smith’s second studio album, The Thrill of It All, topped the UK albums chart in its first week and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
The album featured the RIAA 6x multi-platinum single, Too Good At Goodbyes, which topped the charts in the UK, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand and reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100.
Smith’s third and most recent album, Love Goes, was released in 2020 and resulted in multiple hits, including Dancing With A Stranger (with Normani), How Do You Sleep?, Promises (With Calvin Harris), and more.
Love Goes also earned Smith their first GLAAD Award for Outstanding Music Artist at the 2021 ceremony. Smith’s music has amassed over 30 billion streams and sold over 30 million adjusted albums worldwide.
