Sam Smith rules Grammys 2015: all the winners

Capitol Records signing Sam Smith cleaned up at The Grammys in Los Angeles last night, winning four awards.

The British solo star won Best New Artist, as well as Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year for Stay With Me. Meanwhile, his debut LP In The Lonely Hour won Best Pop Vocal Album.

“It was only until I started to be myself that the music started to flow and people started to listen,” Smith said while collecting the Best Pop Vocal Album award.

It was a good night for UK & Ireland acts generally, too, with Clean Bandit/Jess Glynne’s Rather Be crowned Best Dance Recording and Aphex Twin’s Syro winning Best Dance/Electronic Album.

Other big winners included Beck’s Morning Phase, which picked up Album Of The Year.

Three-time GRAMMY winners for the night included Beyoncé (Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “Drunk In Love” and Best Surround Sound Album for Beyoncé); Pharrell Williams (Best Pop Solo Performance for “Happy [Live], “Best Urban Contemporary Album for Girl and Best Music Video for “Girl”); and engineer Bob Ludwig, who was awarded for work on Beck’s Morning Phase and Beyoncé’s Beyoncé.

Taylor Swift, the only artist to sell more than three million copies of a single album in the US last year, went home empty-handed.
