Saban Music Group strikes strategic partnership with Reggaeton star Don Omar

Reggaeton star Don Omar, a multiple award winning singer, songwriter, actor and philanthropist, has inked a multi-year partnership with Los Angeles-based Saban Music Group (SMG).

Don Omar has over 17.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify and nearly 8m subscribers on YouTube.

The deal includes SMG advancing all recording and marketing costs, according to the company.

Saban Music Group launched in 2019 with its multi-billionaire entertainment mogul founder Haim Saban revealing plans to pump half a billion dollars into the new music company.

In June last year, the company signed an exclusive global administration agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG).

Saban Music Group has hit a number of milestones since its launch in 2019.

In March 2020, the debut release from the recorded music business power-player, Subelo’  – the Latin version of Further Up (Na Na Na Na Na) by Static and Ben El featuring Pitbull and Chesca – climbed to No.1 on Billboard‘s Latin Airplay Chart.

SMG scored another Billboard Latin Airplay No.1 in the US in December 2020.

The alliance with Don Omar reunites the Puerto Rican star with SMG CEO Gustavo López, who worked on the launch of Don Omar’s career.

In the years prior to joining SMG in 2019, Lopez left Universal Music after 21 years to launch his own services company Talento Uno in Los Angeles in 2017, having served as GM/EVP for Universal Music Latin Entertainment prior to exiting the major.

The exec made a lasting impact on UMG’s Latin music output during his career there. He launched Latin-urban label Machete Music and ran UMLE’s regional Mexican labels, Fonovisa and Disa.

He also played a key role in the launch of L Festival – Universal’s successful Latin-themed music event based in Los Angeles.

SMG has acquired Talento Uno’s record label, management and publishing assets as part of Lopez joining as CEO.

Haim Saban

Haim Saban said: “Don Omar is one of the most transcendental music stars of the past two decades, he set the pace for the entire Latin Urban genre; without his charismatic stage presence, deep compositional skills, and powerful vocal delivery, Latin music would be an altogether different animal today, and we’re honored to join forces with him.”

“I can’t wait to connect with my loyal fans and audience by doing what I love most and introduce them to the exciting new music I have coming”.
