Saban Music Group inks global administration agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group

Saban Music Group was launched last July with its multi-billionaire entertainment mogul founder Haim Saban revealing plans to pump half a billion dollars into the new music company.

Los Angeles-based Saban (pictured) is the creator of cult ’90s TV series Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. He’s also the head of investment house, Saban Capital Group.

In an interview with MBW last year, Saban said that “what Sir Lucian [Grainge] has built at Universal Music Group is nothing short of remarkable, and ground-breaking” and in January we discovered that SMG had inked a global distribution and marketing deal with UMG.

Grainge stated in turn that their partnership will deliver “groundbreaking new artists and music to fans around the globe”.

Today (June 23), we learn that the company has signed an exclusive global administration agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), which is effective immediately.

Led by industry veteran Gustavo Lopez, SMG”s global music strategy entails identifying, signing, and developing artists with international appeal.

SMG’s artist/songwriter roster includes Static & Ben El (Israel), Mergui (Israel), Marie Monti (France), Chesca (Puerto Rico), and Reykon (Colombia), and more.

SMG’s operations span recorded music, publishing, touring, management, and acquisitions. The music entertainment firm focuses on providing resources for artists in the US and globally through.

The company is distributed in the US by Caroline, an arm of UMG subsidiary Capitol Music Group, and works in tandem with Caroline International and UMG’s Santa Monica-based central services team for all other territories.

“I am thrilled about this new venture. Innovation requires collaboration, and this partnership amplifies our chances for success on a global scale.”
