Confirmed: Round Hill Music co-founder Richard Rowe joins Hipgnosis Songs Fund

Last month, MBW broke the news that respected music publishing veteran Richard Rowe was leaving Round Hill Music.

We subsequently reported that he had been poached by Merck Mercuriadis-led Hipgnosis Songs Fund.

Today, Hipgnosis has confirmed the move. The UK-listed company has appointed Richard Rowe as Executive Vice President, with immediate effect.

British exec Rowe co-founded Round Hill Music in 2010 alongside the company’s CEO, Josh Gruss, and its President, Neil Gillis.

Rowe acted as Vice-Chairman of Round Hill Music prior to his departure.

Rowe began his career at CBS Records in 1979 as a lawyer in its Business Affairs Department before eventually becoming the President of Sony Music Publishing from 1991 to 2005 (renamed Sony ATV Music Publishing in 1995).

While there, Rowe made the deal with Michael Jackson that led to Sony ATV Music Publishing’s acquisition of The Beatles’ catalog.

He also made the acquisition of Acuff-Rose Music which included the catalogs of Roy Orbison and The Everly Brothers.

After leaving Sony ATV Music Publishing, Rowe co-founded Round Hill Music in 2010, where as Vice Chairman, he brought in many of their most important acquisitions including Carlin Music, Eddie Holland, ArtHouse (Kara DioGuardi), Eric Carmen, Brody Brown, Randy Bachman, and the Gil catalog which included six songs by The Beatles.

“His experience is second to none and he will be adding an additional layer of expertise to our investment and finance teams on data analysis and delivering best in class market disclosures.”
