Rosalía’s fourth studio album LUX broke the record for most-streamed album in a single day on Spotify by a Spanish-speaking female artist.
Spotify announced the achievement on its social media pages on Saturday (November 8).
The album accumulated 42.1 million streams within 24 hours of its Friday (November 7) release via Columbia Records, according to NME.
The streaming numbers more than doubled Rosalía’s previous album performance. Her 2022 release Motomami drew 16 million first-day streams, NME said. The new record surpasses Colombian artist KAROL G, whose 2023 album Mañana Será Bonito held the previous mark with 35.7 million opening-day streams.
LUX spans 18 tracks across one hour. Rosalía performs in 13 different languages throughout the album.
Speaking with The New York Times in a recent interview, Rosalía said: “It’s a lot of trying to understand how other languages work… It’s a lot of intuition and trying to be like, I’m going to just write and let’s see how these will sound in another language.”
The album rollout began last month when Rosalía announced the project and released lead single Berghain feat. Björk and Yves Tumor. Other collaborators include Carminho (on Memória), and Yahritza y su Esencia (on La Perla). Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo co-wrote the song Reliquia on the album.

Since the release of Motomami in 2022, Rosalía has put out new music including standalone singles like LLYM in 2022 and Tuya in 2023. Also in 2023, she launched RR, a collaborative EP with Rauw Alejandro, and worked with Björk on the track Oral. Her more recent collaborations feature her alongside Lisa for New Woman and Ralphie Choo on Omega.
Rosalía’s streaming milestone comes amid the growing global popularity of Spanish-language music.
Bad Bunny on Friday became the first Spanish-language artist to earn nominations for three of the Grammy Awards’ Big Four categories, including Song, Record, and Album of the Year for his record, Debí Tirar Más Fotos. In 2022, his album Un Verano Sin Ti was the first Spanish-language album nominated for Album of the Year in history.
