Roisin Murphy signs to Play It Again Sam

[PIAS]-owned label Play It Again Sam has announced a worldwide licencing agreement with Roisin Murphy, which will result in the release of the first album from the Irish artist for over eight years.

‘Hairless Toys’ will be issued on 11th May and follows last years ‘Mi Centi’ EP, a collaboration between former Moloko frontwoman Murphy and her partner Sebastiano Properzi, which comprised mainly covers, all sung in Italian.

Produced by long time musical director and collaborator Eddie Stevens, Hairless Toys was recorded over a five-week period in late 2014. Over 30 songs were written and recorded during the sessions for ‘Hairless Toys’ with just eight making it onto the final running order.

Roisin Murphy said, “To select just eight songs from the vast batch written last year required some pretty vigorous editing. The record could have been much longer but this seemed like just the right combination, and in fact the sequencing fell into place with more ease than any other album I’ve made.”

Peter Thompson, Managing Director of Play It Again Sam said, “When you get the chance to work with a talent like Roisin you have to take it. She is an amazing addition to the Play It Again Sam family. I have always been a huge admirer of her work and ‘Hairless Toys’ is a thrilling body of work.’’
