Rob Jonas named CEO of trends and analytics platform P-MRC Data

Rob Jonas has been appointed the incoming Chief Executive Officer of P-MRC Data, which combines MRC Data (formerly Nielsen Music), Alpha Data and Variety Business Intelligence.

P-MRC Data serves more than 750 brands with global music and entertainment consumption data, as well as analysis of consumer behavior and trends.

Jonas will join P-MRC Data’s Los Angeles HQ with a remit to unify and expand the company’s portfolio of data products, as well as creating increased value for customers and partners, and solidifying P-MRC Data’s role as “the authoritative, independent data company for the music and entertainment industries”.

Formed in October 2020, P-MRC Data powers the Billboard and Rolling Stone charts. It is jointly owned by Penske Media Corporation (PMC) and MRC.

Rob Jonas most recently served as Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) at enterprise data company Foursquare, where he was responsible for all sales, partnerships, business development and international markets across the company’s complete product portfolio.

In March 2020, Jonas joined Foursquare through a merger with Factual, an industry innovator in geospatial data, where he held the same role, and subsequently spent 12 months completing integration of the go-to-market teams.

The UK-born exec has previously held roles as Global CRO at PubMatic, Vice President and Managing Director of EMEA at InMobi and Director of Strategic Partnerships at Google in Europe, as well as various commercial and technical roles with Yahoo!, idealab! and IBM.

P-MRC Data is comprised of:

  • MRC Data, a leading global provider of data and analytics to the entertainment and music industry and consumers, established in 2019 through the acquisition of Nielsen Music. MRC Data services all digital service providers (DSPs), labels, airplay, and music retailers, and is the  exclusive data provider to the Billboard charts. Its products include Music Connect, Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) and Music360.
  • Alpha Data, formerly known as BuzzAngle, a music-analytics tool and daily-reporting service. Alpha Data+, the subscription tool and service, is widely used by the music industry for its charts, powerful filter sets and global enterprise data solutions. Alpha Data powers the Rolling Stone charts, which launched in July 2019.
  • Variety Business Intelligence (VBI), which provides the entertainment industry with metadata for filmed content across the globe. VBI includes Variety Insight and Vscore.

PMC and MRC previously announced the formation of P-MRC Holdings, a joint venture that owns The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Vibe. P-MRC Holdings is a partner in Music Business Worldwide.

PMC and MRC have also announced a separate content partnership to produce television, film and other formats, whereby MRC will access the intellectual property across the portfolio of PMRC brands.Music Business Worldwide
