Primary Wave acquires Traffic classic Feelin’ Alright, partners with Dave Mason

Primary Wave Music Publishing has acquired classic rock anthem ‘Feelin’ Alright’ and formed a partnership with its songwriter, Dave Mason.

The song was written by Mason aged 19 and first performed in 1968 while he was with British rock band Traffic.

It has since been covered by the likes of Gladys Knight, Isaac Hayes and the Jackson 5.

The most well-known version of the song is by Joe Cocker, who covered it for his debut album, With a Little Help from My Friends.

Cocker’s cover of the song became a Top 40 hit in 1972.

Mason’s career spans nearly 50 years and encompasses producing, performing and songwriting.

As a founding member of Traffic, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has enjoyed a lengthy solo career, penning over 100 songs and recording numerous hit singles.

Collaborators include Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Leon Russell, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, and more.

“As a song writer it is refreshing to be part of an organization that doesn’t just acquire catalogue, but actually involves themselves in the artist.

“I am excited to be working with Larry Mestel and all the people that make up the Primary Wave team.”
