Position Music has appointed Pete Robinson as General Manager, Creative Nashville.
Robinson will report to Position Music Founder and CEO Tyler Bacon and President Mark Chipello.
In the role, he will work with the songwriters and artists Position Music has already signed in Nashville and build out a creative team in the city.
Robinson has spent more than 30 years in the music business, close to 20 of them as a music publisher in Nashville, according to the company.
Position Music says Robinson was a founding partner of Big Deal Music, which Merck Mercuriadis’ Hipgnosis Songs Fund acquired in September 2020.
“We have a real vision for what we are building in Nashville, and Pete is the right person to help lead us into this next chapter,” said Bacon. “Country music is at the center of our Nashville plans, but there is also such an incredible depth of songwriting and creative talent that we want to partner with.

“Pete is well equipped, both creatively and relationally, to work across Nashville’s music community as a whole, which is so important to us. He also has a strong track record of hiring great creative executives and I’m confident he will build a strong team in Nashville to support our songwriters and artists.”
Big Deal Music scored 17 No. 1 country singles, with artists including Luke Bryan, Old Dominion, and Kenny Chesney, according to Position Music.
MBW reported at the time that the Hipgnosis deal brought 4,400 copyrights into the company, as well as Big Deal’s US publishing admin business, Words & Music.
The whole Big Deal operation was rebranded as Hipgnosis Songs Group.
Robinson, then Big Deal’s Senior Vice President in Nashville, was among the executives who signed new five-year contracts as part of that deal.
According to Position Music, Robinson stayed with the company through its transition to Hipgnosis until 2022.
He then set up Pete Robinson Consulting, advising music companies as well as businesses in related sectors.
In June 2025, MBW reported that Sony Music Publishing had acquired Hipgnosis Songs Group LLC, the company formerly known as Big Deal Music, from Blackstone’s Recognition Music Group.
“Pete has an exceptional pedigree as both an A&R executive and a publisher, and his relationships throughout Nashville are second to none,” said Chipello. “Pete brings exactly the kind of experience, passion and perspective that we need and I’m excited about the creative synergy that he will build together with the rest of our Publishing and Label teams.”
Before moving into music publishing, Robinson was Senior Vice President of A&R at RCA and later held the same title at Epic.
His signings at RCA included Dave Matthews Band, according to a 2009 MusicRow report.
He also owned and operated DUMBO Studios in New York City.
“I’m thrilled to join Tyler, Mark, and the Position Music team at such an exciting time for the company,” said Robinson. “I’ve spent my career working with talented artists, songwriters, and producers, and I’ve always believed that the best businesses in music are built on great creative relationships and a genuine commitment to the people behind the music.
“Position Music has built an impressive platform and a culture that puts creators first. I’m looking forward to building on that foundation in Nashville and helping create new opportunities for the incredible talent in this community.”

Position Music’s Nashville roster includes Dave Cohen, Matt Geroux (in partnership with The Core Entertainment), Khalid Yassein (Wild Rivers), Zach Skelton, Maya K., Steve Solomon, Hunter Metts (via a joint venture with Interscope), and Kate Morgan.
Bacon founded Position Music in 1999, and the independent publisher and record label is based in Los Angeles.
Chipello was promoted to President of Position Music last year.
In 2023, Position sold a minority stake to private investment firm Vesper, whose founders were previously involved with another firm that invested in Kobalt Music.
At the time, Bacon named Emily Weber, Chipello, and Jake Versluis as partners in the company.
Position then hired former Kobalt exec Jay Moore as VP, Head of Investments in March 2024, weeks after announcing the acquisition of part of the publishing catalog of French DJ and producer Gesaffelstein.
Position Music says it placed in the top 10 of the quarterly Billboard publisher rankings for both the Hot 100 and Radio Airplay during 2025.
The company’s wider roster of artists, songwriters, and producers includes Cannons, Tinashe, John Feldmann, and Judah & the Lion.Music Business Worldwide
