Pete Tong named President of Three Six Zero Recordings

Three Six Zero CEO & Founder, Mark Gillespie, recently told Music Business USA magazine how legendary British DJ Pete Tong had played a crucial role in the rise of TSZ star client, Calvin Harris.

Tong was one of the earliest supporters of Harris, playing the Scottish producer’s track, The Girls, on BBC Radio 1 back in 2006 – attracting a wealth of industry attention, and kickstarting his career.

Today, that story became somewhat circular. Gillespie has just announced that Pete Tong (MBE, no less) is joining his record label, Three Six Zero Recordings, as President.

Launched in 2018, Three Six Zero Recordings is a joint venture between Sony Music and Gillespie’s well-established management company, Three Six Zero.

Under Tong’s leadership, the label will look to further establish a strong presence in the electronic music space by building upon its current roster.

As part of his role, Tong will also oversee the release of all soundtracks for Three Six Zero produced film and television content.

Operations for the label will be split between Los Angeles and London.

CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, Rob Stringer said, “Pete is obviously a legendary innovator in dance music globally so him joining this exciting new chapter of Three Six Zero is a huge coup for Mark and in turn for Sony Music!”

“I’m looking forward to joining forces with Mark and his team to build a label that embraces a fresh approach, offering artists a unique home in the modern marketplace,” said Tong. “Our goal is to release some great music, amplify the artists vision and move the needle.”

“Pete has been a supporter of Three Six Zero since our first record was played on the radio,” said Gillespie. “It’s inspiring to have someone with his A&R experience, knowledge and connectivity joining our creative team.”

In addition to Harris, Three Six Zero represents musical and entertainment clients including, among others, Will Smith, Tiësto, Jada Pinkett Smith, Spider-verse lead Shameik Moore, Louis Tomlinson, Jaden Smith, Willow Smith and Brady Corbet.

Pete Tong, well known as a DJ and artist, is also a sigificant industry figure.

In 2008 he joined WME and co-created the Electronic Music Division where he will continue to consult as partner & client.

Tong previously worked as A&R director for London Records / FFRR and is a founding partner of The International Music Summit (IMS) in Ibiza.
